A controversial law introduced by the Quebec government has been overturned.
The current Quebec government of Francois Legault’s CAQ introduced legislation to make it illegal for people to grow their own cannabis at home. This law has now been deemed unconstitutional by a Quebec Superior Court judge.
Canada legalized cannabis in October 2018. Whereas the federal government has allowed growing cannabis at home for personal use, the Quebec government wanted to make it illegal.
The legislation introduced by the Quebec Government was judged to fall into criminal legislation — which is under the jurisdiction of the federal government.
Since the Quebec Government still has time to file an appeal or to change the wording of the law, it’s still a good idea to not grow your own cannabis at home if you’re a resident of Quebec.
